Among others who spoke were County Councillor W. J. Kedward, who praised Fochriw’s cultural organisations; Mr. Lance Rogers, secretary of the Ogilvie Lodge of the Mineworkers’ Union, who expressed the hope that the hall would bring together the old and the new Fochriw residents of the new estate; Coun, W. Poyntz, who said that Gellygaer Council was to erect 100 houses at Fochriw; and Mr. Tom Jones, the Coal Board’s regional welfare officer, who said that the hall should provide greater opportunity for the people to come together to discuss problems for the well being of the district. A vote of thanks was proposed by Coun. Samuel Lewis, J.P., and seconded by Mr. Frank Jenkins, vice-chairman of the Association. Treasurer of the Association is Mr. I. T. Evans, and the secretary, Mr. R. Rees, Heol Iago, Fochriw. The Hall was dedicated by Rev. E. Adams Evans, Vicar of Fochriw.
The Hut burned down in 19XX and never rebuilt.
