Rubbish Tips
As previously advised, the first newspaper report that mentioned an ash-tip was in 1875 but probably the first rubbish tip proper was developed during the 1860’s on the eastern side of the river below the river bridge, and this grew to such an extent that part of it may have been levelled-off and the existing football field was born.
This tip was still in use in the 1950's but was eventually closed and a play area of swings and roundabouts was created on it to the  south side of the football field.
The next tip was developed outside the village on the side of the old Roman Road just south of South Tunnel houses and opposite the entrance track to the north side of Pond Feeder.
When this was closed another tip was developed at Penybanc just below the site of the Hotel and above the site of the now demolished water tank on the Brecon & Merthyr Railway. This site has now been converted to a caravan/camping site, which is part of the Parc Cwm Darran complex.

The council then used the Trecatti Landfill Site at Dowlais Top, this being the hole left from the opencast mining
