From the Brecon & Merthyr Railway minutes of 26 March 1874, the Locomotive Superintendent reported that the steam coal supplied by the Dowlais Iron Company from Pantywaun Pit was of inferior quality and ordered that no more wagons should be sent to that pit and the minutes of 31 August 1876 advise that the Dowlais Iron Company had broken the connection between this Company’s line at Pantywaun and, in future, any coal from this place will be handed to us at Fochriw.

The Gelligaer Parish Production Lists  Pantywaun Mine Pit and patches.
