The Gelligaer Parish Production Lists only list one entry as Pantywaun Lower Four Feet Pit as being in production in 1881.

The following is a letter from the Dowlais Papers from Iron in the Making. Dowlais Iron Company Letters 1782 - 1860 edited by Madeleine Elsas, Glamorgan County Archivist (1960)

John Evans to Lady Charlotte Guest [1852(1) f. 424]
Dowlais, 9th April 1852

We are getting very short of water. The Mills & Forges stop every day in consequence. If we do not get rain shortly our new coal pits will be obliged to stop, I have been obliged to put on two Horses with barrells to haul water for the new 4 foot pit, and shall be obliged to resort to the same plan for the Ras Las after Wednesday there being only 4 days water in the pond. The Mine Pits On Monday are to work a portion of them by day & others by night so as to have no more water down than can be pumped by the Furnace Engine Pumps, but I fear with all that we shall not be able to •do but little work . . .
