The photograph  on the left depicts the main North Pit 1,100 volt substation, which comprised Reyrolle Type F pillar switches, and the way to the South Pit landing. The second photograph , from the same direction, shows one of the pumps with the pumpsman Mike Cullen operating a valve.Both picture were taken in the late 1960’s
