Cae Glas Level
Details of this level are to be found on Coal Authority plan SW2875 and and Abandonment Plan No8202. Its location was approximately mid way between Martin Street and the Junction House.
Its workings were not extensive having commenced in April 1856 and closed in November 1857. It mines the Rhondda No3 and Tyla Du coal seams

During the 1950/60’s 2 new levels were driven to the west of Martin Street. The first (Level A on the photograph) which was situated between two coal tips just below the level of the old colliery sidings and adjacent to the junction of the railway sidings with the Brecon and Merthyr Railway and Rhymney Railway.
The second (Level B on the photograph) was adjacent to the railway line and slightly north of the "ganger's hut" above the station at the quarry. The haulage for this level was an old lorry which was stripped of all items except engine, cab, chassis and rear driving wheels, over one of which was placed a steel rope that was used to pull out the full drams.
Fochriw Cross Measures Drifts (Fochriw Drifts or Cae Glas Mine)(OS 100053)
The following is the contents of a memo dated 1 March 1920 from the Dowlais Colliery Office which advises the intention to commence work on the drifts.
Proposed drift from Fochriw Colliery Yard to prove the seven seams of coal above the Elled Seam.
The drift will be driven from Fochriw Colliery Yard Level course dipping 8 inches to the yard for a distance of 300 yards, and will then be turned and driven to the full rise an additional distance of 718 yards to the
